About Bec

How did your yoga journey begin?

I started my yoga practice with reading Yoga philosophy on how to live mindfully when I was fresh out of high school. Not only did this feed my longstanding curiosity into Eastern values, culture and ways of life, it helped me live presently amidst the pressure of undergraduate study.

As I learnt more about meditative practices, I looked to asana to help build my capacity to pair my breath with movement and physical sensation about 6 years ago. What I love the most about starting a yoga journey is that the more you practice, the more there is to learn.

What study, practices and classes have you completed?

I practiced mainly Hatha and Yin for the first few years of my personal journey and now also consistently enjoy Ashtanga classes.

During my second trip to India in 2018, I completed my 200HR Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh. Here, the study of yoga was heavily engrained in the philosophical and spiritual teachings that first attracted me to the practice, as well as a scientific understanding of anatomy and physical postures.

I look forward to go back to Rishikesh to further my study of mind, body and spirituality.

What do you teach at In Motion yoga?

I will be teaching Yin classes. Here, I hope to pass on what first attracted me to Yoga with a restorative practice for our physical bodies, as well as stillness & acceptance exercises for our minds.

What is your favourite type of yoga and why?

This is a hard question! I really enjoy feeling the strength in Ashtanga postures and movement of Vinyasa flow, yet equally thrive in the deep connection to body in Hatha and Yin!

Yet, being able to sit in meditation and simply ‘be’ is probably my favourite part of my practice.

What is one piece of advice for In Motion yogi's?

In the words of my Guru Arvind ji – “practice, practice, practice”.

There are so many pieces of advice that have helped me through my own journey so this is also a tough question. Ultimately, by seeing your yoga journey as a path to self discovery, you will build faith in yourself that you hold the answers and your body can do this. It’s just your mind you need to convince.

Tell us a little something about yourself.

I originally studied to be a History & English teacher and have just recently put this career on hold to further my study in Psychology. I dream of having a holistic practice that has a dual base in Yoga philosophy and Western research.

In my spare time, I try to live as naturally as I can, enjoy extended hikes through Australia’s beautiful scenery and fuel my travel addiction to India & Nepal. I’ve recently got my first taste of climbing up the peaks in the Himalayas and can’t wait to see what else my mind & body can achieve.
