Invictus Games 2018

Oct 28, 2018

Some of you may know I’ve had the opportunity to work with the athletes during the 2018 Invictus Games. Some of you may know I’ve had the opportunity to work with the athletes during the Invictus Games. As part of the work I do with The Yoga Foundation I took this opportunity and had been teaching 20 minute morning meditation/relaxation sessions. The feeling out there was phenomenal.

I met athletes from all around the world and was able to offer them a few moments of…whatever it is they found! One athlete crying and telling me she had the biggest release. Another giving me a BIG hug and saying thanks for calming his nerves. Another PTSD not being able to look me in the eye in the beginning of the session to being able to smile at me in the end. Another saying he felt very calm. Another saying even though it’s noisy he was able to go off and almost felt like he went into a dream.

Meditation can help us calm and centre but sometimes when we’re really keyed up with heightened senses no manner of calming can reduce the anxiety when it’s all new and overwhelming –so that is why we PRACTICE!! It’s all a practice that we do for when?? Until we get to the “event” – what’s our life event? …and let the energy come out of us!

Can we harness it until then?
Can we hold on?
Or do we implode/explode?
Does it get too much for us to handle and then we have the HUGE swings of energy which causes so much anxiety, overwhelm, depressions and fatigue.

Meditation

We are all the same with varying degrees of stressors in our lives and how we cope on any different day depends on what is happening in our immediate environment!

Challenges in everyday life, from work to family and friends, mortgages, travelling, driving, eating, fitness regimes, going out, looking a certain way and paying bills! It can all be a stress.

How do we feel when trying to let go and be happy in our everyday?

It’s something to keep us centered and balanced It’s a practice to keep us in the moment – in the here and now!

Our Meditation classes are scheduled on: Wednesday: 730-830pm. We include relaxation techniques, pranayama -breathing techniques, a focus for the evening and we finish each class with a deep Yoga Nidra practice. Yoga Nidra can be the equivalent of 3-8hours healing sleep depending how deep you can go into the practice! So whether you get to class or you do home practice – please practice!

It makes for a better you and it makes for a better world, it makes us become more responsible rather than reactive!!! We don’t need to be at war with ourselves!!! OM Shanti, peace peace peace.
