About Emily
How did your yoga journey begin?
My yoga journey began taking classes while in high school in Cronulla to the sound of the waves. As a lifelong active person with a background in gymnastics and dance, I was drawn to the physical challenge. Overtime, my appreciation for the calming and centering benefits of yoga has grown. Yoga has been a constant thread in my life while living in Australia, Vanuatu and the UK.
What study, practices and classes have you completed?
My desire to become a yoga teacher was sparked after taking more traditional yoga classes while on holiday in India. I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training with Yoga London in April 2018. My training was in the ashtanga style which built my strength and flexibility.
I then led beginners and open classes at a community hub in east London during 2018. One of the things I enjoyed most was introducing people to experience it was.
What do you teach at In Motion yoga?
I currently teach Hatha yoga which is a gentle paced practice that gives students time to focus on how each pose feels. My classes focus on the physical elements of the body with references to anatomy and alignment.
What is your favourite type of yoga and why?
I enjoy experimenting with diverse styles including ashtanga, jiva mukti, yin and vinyasa flow.
At the moment my favourite type of yoga is practicing meditation and using breath control to centre myself.
What is one piece of advice for In Motion yogi's?
My advice for yogis is just to get on the mat. We’ve all had days where we didn’t feel like coming to class or something else distracted us. Taking that first step of coming to class is always rewarding no matter what else is going on in our lives.
Tell us a little something about yourself.
I returned to Australia in mid-2019 after six years living overseas. I’m excited to continue learning and practising yoga. I can also be found walking in nature and swimming in the ocean.
