Resistance

Resistance

What we resist persists. What the soul requires for growth we shy away from.

If we stay in our comfortable ways of life do we change and grow? Do we learn from where we sit or does something change in order for us to change. These don’t need to be huge changes, but do we have subtle shifts that might feel uncomfortable until we are easy in them and then the next change occurs. If there is more resistance to the change then will it change the way we are, who we are and how we see and perceive? Maybe we don’t like what’s coming or don’t feel aptly prepared for the change so we continue to resist.

Does it go away? Or do we live in a dullness until the next wave arises that we might have the courage to step into?

Strength or Fighting the Flow

We use resistance in our physical practice, pressing parts of the body against each other in order to simulate a movement, a twist, an engagement of musculature to activate certain areas. So we resist to create energy and change.

Are we energetically fighting the flow of energy as we resist? Or are we activating and engaging to assist in the flow of energy of where we want to go and activate into?

Can it be said the same with our emotions and energy levels? Do we resist the energy of flowing where we should go? When we come to sit with a stillness of mind – do we resist as the mind flows back and forth so we give up – do we resist?

7 Days FREE
Do you resist rolling out your mat? You know you should but don’t feel like it?

I know I’ve had a break and for the last few weeks I’ve been finding some time to get on my mat and practice. It’s nothing amazing for anyone else to watch, but for me it’s been bliss. Not to be teaching, but to stretch out, to slow my breaths and deepen or quicken when the urge is there – to hold into parts of my body that are tight and to feel the releases – it’s been pure bliss.

Resistance

As we work through postures in class this week – notice the resistance you create:

1: Resistance of getting on the mat – out of bed early, after work – too tired, can’t be bothered, not enough time – what is the resistance story you tell yourself?? I know I’ve fought with myself with these thoughts!!
2: Resistance of breaths – are you restricting and tightening through your body – locking down and unable to breathe fully?
3: Postures:
Lunges – pressing through your feet and activating the legs and glutes,
Any posture – activating through your foundations,
Twists, pressing the arm and leg, hand and knee, activating to create resistance for the pose,
Arms and Neck – Garudasana eagle arms to open the upper back and shoulder blades, Hand on the shoulder and leaning away to stretch the neck, holding legs and pulling upright to lengthen
Balances: pressing away from the foundation to gain balance and activation.

Have a wonderful week.

The more important an activity is to your soul’s evolution, the more resistance you will feel.

Hi Lou, I just wanted to say THANK YOU so much for providing yoga On Demand on your website.  Recently I had a sore lower back and found great release from the pain by doing some quick fix stretching. Many thanks.
